The pteridine nucleoside analog 4-amino-6-methyl-8-(2-deoxy-beta-d-ribofuranosyl)-7(8H)-pteridone (6-MAP) is highly fluorescent, with a quantum yield of 0.39. Within an oligonucleotide, 6-MAP is intimately associated with native bases and its fluorescence is variably quenched in a sequence-dependent manner.
