The pteridine nucleoside analog 4-amino-2,6-dimethyl-8-(2'-deoxy-beta-d-ribofuranosyl)-7(8H)-pteridone (DMAP) is highly fluorescent, with a quantum yield of 0.48. Within an oligonucleotide, DMAP is intimately associated with native bases and its fluorescence is variably quenched in a sequence-dependent manner.
